CSEdResearch.org, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit specializing in computer science (CS) education research. Our mission is to improve K-12 CS education for all children by enabling and disseminating exemplary evidence-driven research, with a focus on identifying culturally relevant promising practices and transforming student learning.

We are currently hiring a Staff Writer to join our growing team in either a full-time or part-time capacity.

Our Staff Writer will apply their writing skills to a variety of projects, including documents for clients, research publications, blogs, and other projects as needed.

Preferred preference given to applications received on or before December 31, 2022. Applications will be accepted until position is filled. Candidates hired for the position may work remotely in the United States.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform research on different topics
  • Writing content according to a brief or based on research articles and projects
  • Keeping abreast of current events in our field
  • Analyze and interpret findings by breaking down data
  • Interview key people as needed for articles/blogs
  • Write content with readers needs in mind
  • Ensure your pieces are accurate and objective
  • Establish contacts and sources to use in future research
  • Maintain notes in written or electronic form
  • Contribute to content idea generation for publications
  • Proofread work produced by other staff
  • Other related duties as assigned
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time based on institutional needs
Qualifications
  • A degree in journalism, English, communication, or relevant field
  • Excellent written communication skill.
  • Advanced editing skills
  • The ability to make corrections based on notes from coworkers
  • Proven work experience as a staff writer or reporter
  • Demonstrable portfolio of published articles
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office, digital editing, web search and databases)
  • Excellent writing skills in English
  • Ability to follow deadlines and fact-check information
  • An interest in equity and equitable outcomes in education and a dedication to our mission
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
  • Experience with type-setting tools for publishing such as Overleaf or Latex
  • Experience with project management processes and tools (e.g., Kanban, SCRUM/Agile, Asana, Trello)

CSEdResearch.org requires all new hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or receive a legally required exemption as a condition of employment. Location: Work from home

Travel: May be expected to travel to conferences and for data collection on an occasional basis (1-2 times per year) as necessary to complete project scopes of work. There may also be optional opportunities to travel for professional development.

Expected Salary: The expected salary for this position is $20/hr to $30/hr, dependent upon experience and qualifications.
