This project is part of a U.S. Department of Education grant received by Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) entitled “E_CSPD_Wk: Expanded Computer Science Professional Development Week” (OESE Award Number S411C200115). This project leverages the expertise of CSTA chapter leadership to organize a teacher-directed professional development sequence, reaching about 2100 teachers in South Carolina and Indiana over the five-year scope of the grant.

As part of this project, we are developing a standardized measure of growth across the CSTA Standards for CS Teachers to enable teachers to track their progress across PD opportunities. We will work closely with the project evaluators at the University of California San Diego’s CREATE STEM Success Initiative.

Deliverables for this project include:

  • Standard rubrics for measuring teacher growth focused on the Standards for CS Teachers
  • Evaluation systems to measure teacher growth based on the Standards for CS Teachers
  • Training for scorers and an overview for CS teachers engaging in the evaluation process

The project will launch with a pilot of the designed rubrics for Standards 2-5 in the Summer 2022 in South Carolina and Indiana. The official larger launch will take place for all standards, Standards 1-5, in the Summer 2023.
