Welcome to IACE: Advancing PreK-12 Computing Education through Research

At the Institute for Advancing Computing Education, we’re advancing PreK-12 computer science (CS) education for every student. 

IACE (IACE, pronounced eye-ACE), formerly CSEdResearch.org, is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit research institute that produces and promotes evidence-based methods to bring CS education to every child. This includes those with disabilities, from rural backgrounds, and girls. It also includes students from lower-economic backgrounds and with cultural backgrounds that the data shows have been underrepresented in technology due to lack of opportunity (e.g., Indigenous, Black, and Hispanic students). 

What We Do: Leading Computing Education Research in PreK-12

We are at the forefront of PreK-12 computer science education research, committed to sharing high-quality, data-driven insights to those who need it most. Accordingly, our work involves designing, conducting, and promoting research that educators find relevant and actionable. In addition, by offering resources, training, and support, we empower researchers to produce meaningful and rigorous studies that address key questions in computing education.

Our Computing Education Research Goals

Formed as a 501(c)(3) non-profit by Dr. Monica McGill in 2019 as CSEdResearch.org, IACE began with a vision to support education research, researchers, and practitioners. We engage in the following activities:

  • Advance Research Knowledge: We elevate the understanding and production of relevant and rigorous PreK-12 CS education research.
  • Disseminate Findings Widely: We share research data and discoveries across a wide range of platforms.
  • Identify Promising Practices: We analyze and highlight effective classroom strategies to support educators and enhance student achievement.
